How we approach sugar-free

Worked from what you tell us, not from a fixed menu.

"Sugar-free" means different things to different families. Some want a recipe with no added sugar at all. Some want a stevia or erythritol substitute. Some want honey or date-syrup sweetening. Some just want the standard recipe with the sugar reduced.

We work to whatever you ask for. Tell us what you want, what to avoid, and any other ingredients to leave out (some sweeteners contain wheat starch, some don't suit certain palates), and we will write the recipe to that spec. We confirm what's in the cake in writing before baking, so there are no surprises on the morning.

Pricing is per cake because the substitute ingredients vary in cost and the recipe takes more development time than a standard order. As a rough indication, a sugar-free version usually lands within 10-25% of the standard price for the same size in the same icing.

Important note on health

We are a bakery, not a clinic. We do not make medical claims and our cakes are not designed as medical food.

If a guest is managing a medical condition (including diabetes, insulin resistance, or any other condition where ingredients matter), please consult their healthcare provider about which sweeteners and flours are appropriate. Tell us exactly what to use and what to avoid in your enquiry. We will write the recipe to what you ask for and confirm what's in the cake in writing before we bake. The choice of ingredients is yours; the baking is ours.

Common briefs we work to

What customers usually ask for.

Sweetener swap

Stevia or erythritol

A standard recipe with the sugar replaced by a granulated sweetener of your choice. Most-asked option. Works in vanilla, chocolate, and marble. We test the recipe in advance so the texture and rise are right.

Reduced sugar

Standard recipe, less sugar

For guests who want a "lighter" cake without changing the ingredients altogether. We adjust the sugar down by a measured amount and rebalance the recipe so the cake still rises and slices cleanly.

Natural sweetener

Honey or date-syrup based

For customers who want to avoid both refined sugar and artificial sweeteners. Honey and date-syrup change the colour, flavour and texture of the cake, we will be honest about how the final cake will look and taste before you commit.

Mixed-tier

One sugar-free tier on a normal cake

A common request: a sugar-free tier paired with a standard tier on a two-tier cake, so the guest with the dietary need has their slice and everyone else has the cake they expected. We label the tiers at delivery.

Sugar-free frosting

Cream-cheese or whipped-cream finishes

Frosting often holds more sugar than the cake itself. We can match the sponge sugar reduction with a sugar-free or unsweetened cream finish. Buttercream becomes whipped cream cheese; standard cream gets a no-sugar option.

Cupcakes

Sugar-free cupcakes for events

A small batch of sugar-free cupcakes alongside a standard order, so guests with dietary needs have a labelled option. Quoted per dozen on top of the standard cupcake price.

Sugar-free FAQ

Common questions.

Are these cakes safe for someone with diabetes?
We are a bakery, not a clinic, and we do not make medical claims. If a guest is managing a medical condition, please consult their healthcare provider about which ingredients are appropriate, and tell us in your enquiry exactly which sweeteners and flours we should use or avoid. We will work to what you ask for and confirm in writing what is in the cake before you commit.
What sweeteners do you use?
We work to what you ask for. The most common requests are stevia, erythritol, monk fruit, honey, or simply a reduced-sugar standard recipe. Tell us what you want or what to avoid and we will write it into the recipe.
How much do sugar-free cakes cost?
Pricing is per cake once we hear what you need, because the substitute ingredients vary in cost and the recipe needs adjustment. Sugar-free versions usually land within 10-25% of the standard price for the same size in the same icing. We send a written quote before you commit. See standard price guide →
Can I have one sugar-free tier on a normal cake?
Yes, this is a common request. We bake one tier sugar-free, the other tier standard, and label them at delivery so it is obvious which is which. The guest with the dietary need has their slice and everyone else has the cake they expected.
Will the cake taste the same?
Honestly, sometimes. Sugar-free recipes with stevia or erythritol get very close to the standard cake. Honey or date-syrup recipes have a different colour and a slightly different flavour profile, we tell you upfront. For first-time orders we are happy to send a photo of a test slice so you can confirm the texture and look before the full bake.
How much notice do you need?
Three days for a standard sugar-free single-tier. Five days for a tier cake or a custom finish. Same-day is rarely possible because the recipe testing and substitute-ingredient sourcing take more time than a standard order.
Can the cake be eggless and sugar-free?
Yes. Combined dietary requests are routine for us. Mention both in the enquiry and we plan the recipe and timing from the start. See eggless cakes →
