Roora Day · Designed for the families

A Roora Day cake the families will remember.

Made by hand in Harare. Matched to your colours, named for both families, and delivered to where the elders are seated. The cake should feel like the day deserves it, and the photographs should hold for years.

Why families order from us

A cake worthy of the moment, calmly delivered.

A Roora Day cake carries a lot of weight in a small piece of design. It nods to both families, it sits in the photographs that the elders will see, and it has to feel right alongside the décor of the day. We treat it that way.

Brides order from us when they want the cake to feel intentional and beautiful. Grooms order from us when they want everything to land smoothly without surprises. Aunts, sisters, and planners order from us when they want a vendor who will turn up early, set up cleanly, and deliver to the bride's family home without needing to be managed.

How we approach a Roora cake

Three things we always get right.

Designed for the day's tone

The cake should read as a gift to the families. Clean finishes, considered sugar-work, both surnames, the date if you want it. Quiet beauty over crowd-pleasing flourish.

Matched to your palette

Send a swatch, a fabric sample, a chitenge photo or your décor plan. We colour-match the buttercream, the fondant ribbon, and the topper. Painted finishes are handled in studio so we control the colour up to the moment of delivery.

Delivered to where it sits

We deliver to the bride's family home, set the cake up where the elders are seated (not where guests can hunt for it), and photograph it for the family records before we leave.

Tier guidance & flavours

Choosing the right size.

Tier-to-guest guide

Tiers Serves Starts at
1 tier12-20 guests$35
2 tiers30-50 guests$80
3 tiers60-100 guests$300
4+ tiers100+ guestsOn request

Most Roora Day cakes we make are one or two tiers. Match the count to the close family expected, not the wider guest list.

Flavours that work for Roora

  • Rich fruit, the elders' choice; ages well, travels well, traditional
  • Vanilla sponge, neutral, photographs well, broad appeal
  • Chocolate mud, for the younger family members
  • Red velvet, colour reads beautifully against burgundy or gold décor
  • Lemon chiffon, light, fresh, good for warm afternoons
  • Carrot, popular dual-flavour pairing with vanilla

Dual-flavour tip: for two-tier cakes, we often pair rich fruit (top tier, for elders and to take home) with a sponge or chocolate (bottom tier, for everyone else). Tell us who's coming and we'll suggest the pairing.

Personalisation

What we can put on the cake.

Surname topper

Both family surnames

Most Roora cakes carry both surnames, typically the groom's above the bride's, joined by the date. Available as a wooden topper, a sugar topper, or hand-piped on the cake itself.

Edible print

Family motifs & phrases

A totem, a chitenge pattern, a Shona or Ndebele phrase, or a verse, printed in edible ink on a fondant plaque so the colour stays true.

Sugar work

Florals & sugar detail

Hand-made sugar peonies, roses, or proteas matched to your palette. Suitable for tier-tops, cascades, or single statement blooms.

How ordering works

Four steps. One business day for our first reply.

WhatsApp the details

Send us your Roora Day date, the bride's family colours, your guest count, and any cultural detail you want included (totem, surnames, languages).

Confirm flavours & size

We come back with a tier recommendation, a flavour pairing, and a written quote inside one business day. No tasting required for one- or two-tier cakes; we can arrange one for three-tier or above.

Approve & deposit

A 50% deposit holds your date. Final design and topper text are confirmed at this point.

Delivered to the family home

We deliver to the bride's family home in Harare on the morning of the ceremony, set up where the elders are seated, and photograph the cake before we leave. Outside Harare we quote per arrangement.

Roora Day cake FAQ

What families ask before they order.

Can you match the cake exactly to our family colours?
Yes. Send us a swatch of the chitenge, a fabric sample, a photograph of your décor, or a Pantone reference. We colour-match the buttercream, the fondant ribbon, and the sugar flowers. We proof the colour against your reference before baking so there are no surprises on the morning.
How much notice do you need?
One to three weeks is the typical window. Two-tier and three-tier designs with sugar work need the longer end. If your date is sooner, message us, we sometimes have capacity for a single-tier at shorter notice and we will be honest about what is possible.
How many tiers do we need?
Most Roora Day cakes we bake are one or two tiers. One tier serves 12-20 guests; two tiers serve 30-50; three tiers serve 60-100. Match the count to the close family expected, not the full wedding guest list.
How far ahead should we order?
One to three weeks is the typical window. Shorter notice is sometimes possible, message us and we'll tell you honestly whether the date is available before you commit anywhere.
Can the cake have both family surnames on it?
Yes. Most of our Roora Day cakes carry both surnames, the groom's family surname above the bride's, joined by the date or a short phrase. We handle this in edible ink on a fondant plaque, as a wooden topper, or as a sugar topper depending on the design.
Can you include Shona or Ndebele text?
Yes. We've printed Shona surnames, Ndebele phrases, and family proverbs on cakes before. Send us the exact spelling (special characters included) and we'll proof it back to you before printing.
Can you deliver to my family home?
Yes. We deliver Roora Day cakes to the bride's family home in Harare on the morning of the ceremony, set up where the elders sit, and photograph the cake for the family records before we leave. Outside Harare we quote per arrangement, rich fruit travels well, fresh-cream cakes don't.
What does it cost?
One-tier from $35, two-tier from $80, three-tier from $300. Final price depends on flavour pairing, sugar work, and topper choice. We send a written quote on WhatsApp inside one business day.
