Valentine's Day cakes in Harare

Valentine's Day cake options at the studio

The studio bakes thirteen signature flavours all year. Four of them are the ones people actually order for 14 February.

Red Velvet is the most-ordered Valentine cake by a long way. Cream cheese frosting, red sponge, a clean finish in white and red. It photographs well, it tastes the way people want a Valentine cake to taste, and Beverley can have it ready in a day.

Strawberry runs second. Fresh fruit on top, a softer pink palette, and it suits a partner who finds Red Velvet too sweet. If the strawberries are good on the day, this is the cake we will quietly suggest you upgrade to.

Death by Chocolate is for the partner who would rather have chocolate than a colour scheme. Three layers, dark ganache, no apologies.

Black Forest is on the list for honesty's sake. Brandy-soaked cherries make it adult rather than romantic-pretty, so it is the right call if your partner orders the Black Forest at every birthday, and the wrong call if the cake also has to be the photo on the post.

Any of the other nine flavours on the full signature menu can be finished in a Valentine palette. If you want Vanilla with a red drip and a single rose, message us and ask.

Heart-shaped and custom Valentine cakes

A heart-shaped cake is custom work, not part of the standard signature line. The studio bakes it in a heart tin, builds a round cake with a fondant heart topper, or runs a two-tier with a heart accent on the top tier. We can also print an edible photo onto the cake, which works well as a surprise for an anniversary that lands in Valentine's week.

Custom heart shapes need three to five days, in line with the rest of our character and custom work. If the design uses an edible photo print or a sculpted fondant finish, a full week is better. The fondant has to set, the colours have to mix, and rushed sculpted work shows. If you are reading this on 12 February and want a heart-shaped cake for the 14th, message anyway. Sometimes we can. More often the honest answer is a signature flavour with a Valentine finish, which will land better than a custom cake we did not have time to do properly.

Cupcakes for Galentine's, groups, and offices

Cupcakes are USD $20 a dozen, minimum 2 dozen for delivery. Red and pink buttercream, hearts piped on top, names if you want them.

Place this order if you are doing a girls' Galentine on the 13th, sending something to an office team, or you would rather give your partner 24 small cakes than one big one. Beverley can split the box across flavours if you want half Red Velvet and half Vanilla.

Lead time and the 13 February problem

One to two days' notice for signature flavours. Order Sunday for Tuesday, Wednesday for Friday. The studio needs the order locked in by mid-afternoon so the next day's baking schedule can close.

Three days for sugar-free cakes. Three to five days for custom heart shapes and other character work, because the fondant has to set and the colours have to mix. And ideally a full week for edible-print photo toppers or sculpted fondant work, where the finish needs time to dry without cracking and the print has to be ordered and applied cleanly.

If you are reading this on the night of 13 February, message us anyway. We will tell you what is possible. Sometimes the answer is yes, on a signature flavour in a smaller size, picked up at Madokero before lunch. Sometimes the honest answer is no, and we would rather say no than send out a rushed cake with your name attached.

Delivery in Harare on Valentine's Day

Delivery is a flat fee by Harare zone. Pickup at the Madokero studio is free. The full zone map and fees are on delivery zones across Harare.

Two things to know about the 14th. Delivery slots fill earliest in the week of Valentine's, especially the lunch slot and the after-work slot. And if the surprise plan depends on the cake arriving while your partner is out of the house, tell us the window in the first message, not after we have quoted. We will build the schedule around it.
