What a two-tier wedding cake costs in Harare

The starting price is $200, in USD. We accept ZIG at the prevailing rate on the day of payment.

What that figure includes:

  • The cake, baked to order at our studio in Madokero.
  • Your choice of standard finish: fresh cream, buttercream or plastic icing.
  • Delivery to your Harare venue.
  • On-site setup, including stacking and final dressing at the venue.
  • A written quote after the consultation, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Quoted on top of the $200, because they vary so widely:

  • Sugar flowers and hand-piped sugar work.
  • Hand-painted finishes like gold leaf, brush-stroke colour or monograms.
  • A dummy tier added for height, when the photograph matters more than the slice count.
  • Delivery to addresses outside Harare, quoted per route.
  • Coordination with the florist when fresh flowers are dressed on the cake at the venue.

For the wider catalogue of signature cakes, anniversary cakes and the rest, the full price guide has it.

How many guests a two-tier feeds

Two tiers stacked feeds 30 to 60 guests. The smaller end is for a dessert-style slice served as the actual pudding course. The upper end is for the thinner finger slice that gets served with coffee at the cake-cutting moment.

Tell us at the consultation which cut you have in mind. The decision affects nothing about how the cake is built, only how we brief the venue team on the slicing.

If your headcount is over 60, three tiers is the right size to look at. Our three-tier cakes serve 60 to 120 guests. We would rather walk through the comparison at see all our wedding cake tiers than stretch a two-tier past what it can do.

Flavour pairings that work in two tiers

A two-tier lets you carry one flavour through both layers, or split the cake: one flavour up top, another underneath. Most couples we work with split it. A two-flavour cake feels more generous at the cake table and gives guests a small choice without the kitchen running two whole cakes.

Pairings we see often:

Top tierBottom tierWhy it works
Red VelvetVanillaClassic. Cream cheese against a clean vanilla crumb.
ChocolateOrange ChiffonThe orange lifts the chocolate. Lighter on the palate.
Black ForestVanillaCherry and dark chocolate up top, neutral base.
CarrotLemon Poppy SeedTwo flavours that hold up in heat and feel grown-up.

If older relatives prefer the traditional fruit cake, run it as the top tier in an otherwise sponge stack. The rich fruit wedding cake page covers how the fruit option is matured and finished.

For the longer read on which flavours travel best between the studio, the venue and a Saturday afternoon outside, the blog piece on flavours that travel in Harare's heat is worth ten minutes before the consultation.

Icing and finish choices

Any of the standard finishes are available at the $200 starting price.

  • Fresh cream. Soft, light on the palate. A less heavy slice. Best kept cool until cutting.
  • Buttercream. Heat-stable, holds piping, takes texture well. The middle ground.
  • Plastic icing (fondant). Sharp edges, smooth panels, the finish behind most wedding-photo cakes. Holds detail like hand-painted gold or appliqué.

Sugar flowers, hand-painted detail and structural extras are quoted on top after the consultation.

Roora plus white wedding: when two-tier makes sense twice

A two-tier often gets ordered twice in the same season. Once for the roora ceremony, where the guest count tends to be smaller and the flavour brief leans traditional. Then again for the white wedding the following weekend, with a different design.

If that is your shape, we plan both at the same consultation. Each cake is quoted on its own, and you only sit through one tasting and one decision-making session for the design direction across both. For the roora side specifically, the Roora Day cakes page has the dual-flavour notes and surname-topper detail.

Lead time and booking window

Three to nine months out is the booking window we recommend, especially if your date is a Saturday between July and December. That is when the wedding calendar gets crowded.

Shorter lead times are sometimes possible, depending on what is already in the calendar. Earlier is always better. The closer your message lands to the date, the more likely it is that the Saturday is already taken.

To lock the date we take a 50 percent deposit. The balance is due 14 days before the wedding. Deposits are non-refundable, but transferable to a new date if the calendar allows. The full terms sit on the wedding cake FAQ page if you want them before committing.

Delivery and on-site setup

Delivery within Harare and on-site setup are included in the $200 figure. Outside Harare is quoted per route.

What setup means in practice: we arrive at the venue ahead of guests, stack the cake on the cake table, dress it with whatever the design calls for (fresh flowers from the florist, ribbon, monogram), and photograph it before we leave. If your photographer wants a clean shot of the cake before guests are in the room, we coordinate the timing.

The full service area is on the delivery across Harare page.

Questions people ask

How much does a two-tier wedding cake cost in Harare?

A two-tier wedding cake at The Cake Studio starts at $200, in USD. That covers the cake, a standard finish in fresh cream, buttercream or plastic icing, plus delivery and on-site setup within Harare. Sugar flowers, hand-painted detail and dummy tiers are quoted on top.

How many people does a two-tier wedding cake feed?

A two-tier serves 30 to 60 guests. The lower end is for a dessert-style slice served as pudding. The upper end is for a thinner finger slice served with coffee at the cake-cutting moment. We plan the slicing with you at the consultation so the venue team is briefed.

Can a two-tier wedding cake have two flavours?

Yes. One flavour can run through both tiers, or each tier can carry its own. Most couples split it, often Red Velvet over Vanilla, or Chocolate over Orange Chiffon. We talk through the pairing at the tasting and quote the final cake after.

How far in advance should I book a two-tier wedding cake?

Three to nine months ahead is the window we recommend, especially for Saturday weddings between July and December. Shorter lead times sometimes work, but peak dates fill early. A 50 percent deposit confirms the booking, with the balance due 14 days before the wedding.

What is the difference between fresh cream, buttercream and plastic icing?

Fresh cream is light and soft, best kept cool until cutting. Buttercream is heat-stable, holds piping and texture well, and sits as the middle option. Plastic icing (fondant) gives the sharp panels and smooth surface behind most wedding-photo cakes, and holds painted detail.

Do you do tastings before I commit?

Yes. The consultation is free, runs 45 minutes, and can be in studio or by video call. There is no obligation to book afterwards. We walk through flavours, design references and structure, then send a written quote so you can decide on your own time.
